Why Hammermilling & Crop Selection are key to our premium bedding

The secret to the high performance of our bedding range lies entirely in our selective sourcing and specialized processing method:

  • Strict Crop Selection: Crop selection is where quality begins. We selectively choose the best fields that have experienced the least weathering. This critical first step ensures our raw material stays bright, clean, and naturally mold-free.
  • Low-Moisture Baling: We harvest and bale our straw at low moisture levels (6% to 12%) to lock in that clean freshness and guarantee no mold development.
  • The Power of Hammermilling: Hammermilling is the key. Unlike standard cutters that simply chop straw, our advanced hammermill crushes and shatters the material down to an average particle size of 10mm.
  • Shattering the Stem: Standard un-milled straw leaves the outer tube of the stem intact, which naturally sheds liquids. Our hammermill aggressively breaks open the hollow stem, exposing the highly absorbent inner core of the plant.
  • Total Dust Elimination: Once the stem is shattered, the material instantly passes through our unique extraction system to strip away all microscopic airborne dust.
  • Final Packaging: The clean, ultra-absorbent shavings are instantly bagged, sealed, and palletized to lock out moisture.

By focusing on strict crop selection and breaking open the stem via hammermilling, we create a bright, clean, sponge-like mattress that traps moisture instantly. This makes your stables much easier to muck out, keeps the bed fresher for longer, and drastically reduces your overall stable waste.

Our Golden Straw is not chopped, providing a traditional straw bedding.

Single pallets are delivered within 4 working days anywhere in Ireland and all prices given include delivery. We also have our own truck with a mounted forklift for large loads up to 18 pallets.

Single Pallet Delivery Requirements
Single pallets ordered online are delivered via a national pallet network and are strictly kerbside deliveries.

• Truck Access: Your property must be accessible by a large rigid truck (no narrow lanes or low trees).
• Equipment: The truck uses a tail lift and a manual pallet truck. It does not have a mounted forklift.
• Drop-Off Point: The pallet is left at the rear of the truck on the closest flat, hard surface (concrete or tarmac).
• Limitations: The driver cannot move the pallet over gravel, grass, dirt, or steep inclines.

Please ensure your site has suitable truck access and a solid unloading surface before ordering.
